Far out at sea, where the open ocean stretches towards Greenland, lies Ytri, a name drawn from Old Norse, meaning “the outer point”. For 9,000 years, people have lived here, shaping the landscape together with the wind and the sea.

Ytri was born from a local vision to invite the world into a way of life shaped by the sea and community.

Over the years, a small community dared to dream, and ten years later, Ytri became a reality- a place that invites you to experience island life, deeply rooted in Træna yet open to the world.
The houses follow the landscape, taking their form from the weather and the coastline itself. Ancient paths, worn by time and tide, link them to the landscape and lead you into the wildness of the islands.

Designed by Vardehaugen Architects, Ytri draws inspiration from the old fishing villages that once lined the coast, resilient communities at the edge of the sea known for their colourful houses, sturdy structures, and weathered quays.
