Among Norway’s oldest fishing settlements, Træna is a place where sea and history meet. Here you’ll find Kirkehelleren, a vast cathedral-like cave on the island of Sanna, a gathering place for the islanders for more than 9,000 years.

Around 450 people live on Træna, many of whom are happy to share their stories, traditions, and thoughts about life here.

Part of modern Norway, this small island world is built on fishing, local culture, and a network of active settlements that thrive even on the most remote islands. It is a living, breathing place that welcomes you to take part in it.

Træna – Hawaii

The story of two siblings links Træna to Hawaii. Alma grew up here, capturing island life through the lens of a camera sent from her brother Theodor who emigrated to Honolulu before they met, and never returned.

Træna has many spaces where islanders and visitors meet, from seaside saunas to small cafés and local events shaped by those who call this place home.
